New Features Coming to iPhones with iOS 18.2 Update

Apple introduced iOS 18 as the biggest update for iPhones, but many new features were not available in the initial release. In this context, the iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2 updates are significant.

Apple did not roll out Apple Intelligence features for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 series in a single update. iOS 18 did not include any AI features. The AI capabilities showcased at WWDC and Wonderlust events will come with the iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2 updates. iOS 18.1 is expected in October, and iOS 18.2 in December.

Siri to Get ChatGPT Integration

Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned that the Apple Intelligence features would be rolled out gradually and that ChatGPT integration would arrive by the end of the year. This integration is expected with iOS 18.2. With user permission, Siri will not directly answer questions but will show responses from ChatGPT. ChatGPT will be available as an option for Apple's system-wide writing tools, allowing users to create text and images. A ChatGPT account will not be required, but ChatGPT Plus subscribers can link their accounts for access to premium features. Apple states that it will not store ChatGPT requests made from the device and will hide the user’s IP address.

Genmoji and Image Playground

Apple introduced AI-powered image creation features like Genmoji and Image Playground at WWDC but did not release them with any beta versions. These features are expected to come with iOS 18.2. Users of iPhone 15 Pro and later models will be able to create their own emojis and other fun visuals.

Hearing Health Features for AirPods Pro 2

During the iPhone 16 event, Apple announced several new hearing health features for AirPods Pro 2, including a passive noise reduction mode for noisy environments and a new clinically-level hearing aid feature with a custom hearing profile. This FDA-certified feature is expected to be released with iOS 18.2.

Redesigned Mail App

Apple redesigned the Mail app but has yet to release new features such as categorization. The new Mail app will categorize emails, summarize them, and help users respond faster with smart reply options.

Robot Vacuum Support

Apple is likely to add robot vacuum support to the Home app with the iOS 18.2 update. The Home app will allow users to control basic functions of robot vacuums like power management, cleaning mode, sweeping, and mopping. Siri can also be used to issue commands.
