The new artificial intelligence features to be added to the Windows 11 24H2 version have been revealed. Microsoft will gradually introduce these updates starting November 1, 2024.
The Windows 11 24H2 update has recently been released to all users. Despite being riddled with various bugs, Microsoft plans to introduce several AI features to the operating system.
Previously, Microsoft introduced Cocreator in Paint, Restyle in Photos, Live Captions, and Windows Studio Effects. These features were exclusive to Copilot+ PCs and required an NPU to operate. The much-debated Recall was also expected but was withdrawn due to privacy and security concerns. Now, several AI features are on the way for users of the 24H2 version. Here are the AI features coming to Windows 11:
Click to Do acts like an assistant that stays at the top of the screen and helps you when needed. It processes data locally and analyzes the on-screen content. For example, when you open an image and the feature is active, you'll see it at the top of the screen, allowing you to right-click on the selection area to access options like searching the image on Bing, saving, sharing, opening with other apps, blurring the background with Photos, or deleting objects. If text is selected, opening Click to Do will show options like summarizing or rephrasing, though this feature is still in testing. The AI-powered Click to Do will be available in November.
The Windows 11 24H2 version adds the super resolution feature to the Photos app. Microsoft claims you can upscale an image up to 8 times its original resolution. You'll be able to control the effect with a single slider. Super resolution uses local AI models to enhance the image.
With the removal of the object deletion feature from the Photos app, both the deletion and fill-in (also known as image completion) features are coming to Paint. The deletion feature will allow you to select and remove an area, while the fill-in feature will help you add elements to images. Both actions will happen instantly, with no long waits.
Even if you can't remember the exact name or extension of a file, you'll now be able to easily find it in File Explorer and Windows Search. Just enter keywords related to the file in the search bar, and Windows 11's AI will locate it, even if the file name consists of numbers. Microsoft will first add this feature to File Explorer and later integrate it into Windows Search and Settings.
Based on feedback, Microsoft will release an improved version of Recall that better protects user privacy. Screenshots will no longer store sensitive information. You’ll be able to configure it to exclude certain apps, and all data will stay on your PC. Recall will also be an optional feature, so during the Windows 11 setup, you can choose not to use it. Microsoft also says it’s introducing new security mechanisms that encrypt and protect data.
The new AI features to be added to Windows 11 24H2 will work best on Copilot+ PCs that require NPU.
