Netflix will open "fun stores"?

Netflix, the world's largest entertainment/media company by market capitalisation, plans to open fun stores to promote its content.

Netflix plans to open entertainment-focused, experiential venues called "Netflix House" where people can shop, dine and enjoy other activities connected to their favourite movies and TV shows.

During the Bloomberg Screentime conference, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos announced plans to open two locations in 2025, with plans to further expand Netflix worldwide. "Don't think of it like Disneyland," Sarandos said, adding that Netflix House is "a place to go a few times a month, not just once every few years."

Netflix sees the House as a way to promote its content rather than a meaningful source of revenue. These venues will have different structures ranging from ticketed shows to restaurants and retail stores.

According to Netflix Vice President of Consumer Products Josh Simon, the upcoming venues will offer an exciting mix of retail, dining and live experiences. "We've seen how much our fans love immersing themselves in the world of our films and TV shows, and we've been thinking a lot about how to take that to the next level," Simon told Bloomberg.

Netflix's new idea is expected to launch in the United States in 2025.
