Apple has delighted MacBook users by raising the minimum RAM for M2 and M3 MacBook Air models to 16 GB, keeping the price the same as models with 8 GB RAM.
Following the announcement of M4 Pro and M4 Max-powered MacBook Pro models, Apple has made a change that Mac users will appreciate by increasing the minimum RAM for M2 and M3 MacBook Air models to 16 GB while maintaining the price at the level of 8 GB RAM models.
Previously, purchasing a MacBook Air with 16 GB RAM required an additional $200 charge. Now, all models come standard with 16 GB RAM, while the starting price remains at $999.
The new iMac, Mac Mini, and MacBook Pro models introduced by Apple this week also come with 16 GB RAM as the baseline capacity. This increase is mainly driven by Apple Intelligence technology. While 8 GB RAM might be enough for iPhones, meeting the higher RAM demands of AI models running on Mac computers—where multitasking and more intensive applications are standard—requires more. Therefore, 16 GB RAM is now the standard for new Mac models.
