Macs with M4 processor are coming: What innovations are expected?

Apple is expected to introduce the M4 processor Mac series in October. So, what innovations will the M4 MacBook and other models come with?

Following the iPhone 16 launch, Apple is expected to hold another event in October. It is rumoured that MacBook Pro, Mac mini and iMac models with M4 processor will be introduced at this event. Here is all that is known about M4 Mac computers:

16GB RAM will be standard

According to Gurman, M4 chip Macs (including the 14-inch Macbook Pro, new Mac mini, new iMac) will come with at least 16GB of RAM. Apple has been shipping base model Macs with 8GB of RAM for the past eight years, and says that amount of memory is sufficient for most usage scenarios. Since macOS 15 Sequoia brings Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence features, it makes sense that M4 Macs will come with more memory.

Mac mini gets a design refresh

Recent reports suggest that Apple will implement the biggest design change in its 14-year history on the new Mac mini, significantly shrinking the device. With the new design, all ports will now be USB-C. Not much is known about how it will look, but given the fact that it's Apple's cheapest Mac, a smaller Mac mini is certainly exciting.

USB-C Magic Mouse, Keyboard and Trackpad

Rumours suggest that the new iMac is coming this autumn and that Apple will finally refresh all of its Magic accessories. Given the fact that Apple must comply with the EU's USB-C mandate by the end of this year, it's almost certain that with the new M4 iMac, Apple will say goodbye to Lightning in its desktop accessories.

Space black will not be exclusive to top models

The space black colour is currently exclusive to the high-end M3 Pro and M3 Max chip MacBook Pro. The base model M3 MacBook Pro comes in space grey. It's not just a colour difference either. Last year, when the new M3 Macbook Pro was released, the latest macOS version came with Ventura instead of Sonoma. However, MacBook Pros with the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips came out of the box with macOS Sonoma. Hopefully, the space black and latest macOS version will also come to the cheapest M4 MacBook Pro.

Brand new M4 Pro and M4 Max chips

Apple first used the M4 chip in the iPad Pro model in an interesting way. We still haven't seen Apple's high-end processors, the M4 Pro and M4 Max, which are expected to be seen in new high-end MacBook Pros later this year. The only thing known about Apple M4 Pro and M4 Max processors is that they are based on TSMC's 3nm manufacturing process.
