Instagram Doubles Reels Video Duration Limit

The maximum duration for Instagram Reels videos is doubling from 90 seconds to 3 minutes. Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained that this decision was driven by user feedback.

Soon, users will be able to share 3-minute Reels videos. This update comes as many found the previous 90-second limit too short for their content needs.

Mosseri commented:

"Now you can upload Reels up to 3 minutes long. Historically, we focused on short-form videos, allowing only 90 seconds, but feedback showed this was too limiting for longer stories. Hopefully, this change works well."

Instagram has been cautious in increasing Reels video length, allowing 90-second videos over two years ago. The company tested 10-minute videos, but didn’t implement them, and has since removed the ability to share longer videos outside Reels. TikTok, which may face restrictions in the U.S., has allowed 3-minute videos since 2021.
