Market research company Canalys published tablet sales figures for the first quarter of 2024. Accordingly, 33.7 million tablet computers were sold in the first quarter of the year, an increase of 1% compared to last year.
Apple was again by far at the top of the sales, but the company's sales decreased by 13.9% compared to last year. While Apple had a 42% market share last year, it fell to 36% this year. In second place was Samsung with a 20 per cent share. The South Korean giant managed to maintain its share last year. Huawei made the biggest breakthrough. Huawei continues to recover in the tablet market as well as in the smartphone market. The company, which had a 5% market share last year, managed to increase its share to 8% in the first quarter of this year by increasing its sales by 70% and climbed to third place.
Huawei realises most of its sales in China, as it cannot access Google services due to the American embargo. The Chinese giant plans to use better chipsets in the future to keep up with the competition. The Huawei Mate 70 series is rumoured to launch in October with the company's first 5nm Kirin processor. The company will also use this processor in its tablets to keep up with the competition.
Apple, which has not renewed its iPads for a long time, aims to rise again in the tablet market by announcing the OLED iPad Pro series with M4 processor at the ‘Let Loose’ event tomorrow.
