Google integrates Spotify with its Gemini AI assistant

Google is integrating Spotify with its Gemini AI assistant, bringing a new level of convenience to music enthusiasts. This integration allows users to search for and play songs or playlists on Spotify using natural language through Gemini.

Spotify and Gemini integration

With Gemini, users can easily find and play song titles, artist names, albums, or music suited for specific occasions. However, advanced functions like creating playlists or radio stations are not supported yet. If platforms like YouTube Music are also linked to Gemini, users will need to specify which platform they want to use.

Currently, the Spotify plugin works only when Gemini is set to English. Additionally, you must link your Spotify account to your Google Account. Extensions can only be used when the Gemini Extensions Activity is enabled. Once activated, you can connect Spotify and other Google services to Gemini. Search queries are stored for up to 72 hours.

At this time, accessing Spotify through Google Messages, the Gemini web app, or the iOS Gemini app is unavailable. Notably, Spotify is the second non-Google app to gain Gemini capabilities, following the initial integration with WhatsApp in October.
