Elon Musk said all Premium subscribers on X (Twitter) will gain access to AI chatbot Grok this week. Grok is developed by Musk's xAI artificial intelligence company.

After open-sourcing its Grok artificial intelligence in early March, Elon Musk's xAI company is now expanding its use. Musk announced that the Grok chatbot will be available to all paying Premium subscribers later this week. In its current form, Grok was only available to high-level Premium+ subscribers in certain regions.

Grok AI opens to X Premium subscribers

This move may indicate an aim to compete more directly with other popular chatbots, such as ChatGPT by OpenAI or Anthropic's Claude. This also fuels X's desire to increase its number of paid subscribers. Musk didn't say when Grok would be available to X users, only that it would be enabled for all Premium subscribers later this week.

The Grok-1 model, which powers the Grok chatbot, was published as open source on GitHub in recent weeks. Just a few weeks ago, Musk sued OpenAI and Sam Altman, accusing them of pursuing profit and abandoning their non-profit purposes. While Musk argues that artificial intelligence should be open, he believes that OpenAI, which he initially supported financially, has moved away from this desire.
