OpenAI recently launched a native app for ChatGPT on Mac, and now the company has released a desktop app for Microsoft Windows.

OpenAI has begun testing the Windows app for its popular AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT. However, this application is currently available only to ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu subscribers. Users familiar with the web experience will be able to do the same tasks on the desktop app. Additionally, the minimum requirement is Windows 10.

The Windows era for ChatGPT

Similar to the Mac version, the Windows ChatGPT app allows users to open a separate window and quickly ask questions while using other applications. The app supports file and photo uploads and provides access to OpenAI’s newly developed o1 model, which features reasoning abilities. The app is also easily accessible via the Alt + Space shortcut.

The ChatGPT Windows app, still in its test phase, has some limitations. The app currently does not support standard and advanced audio features, nor does it authenticate with Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or GPT Builder. OpenAI says these features and other missing details will be available in the full version.

When the Mac version of ChatGPT launched in June, a developer found a security vulnerability related to saving conversations in text format. OpenAI quickly resolved the issue and encrypted locally stored data. OpenAI plans to roll out the Windows app to a broader user base by the end of the year. For now, only subscribers can enjoy these updates.
