Gmail will start showing the familiar-looking blue checkmark next to the sender's name to verify their identity. In a blog post, Google says this feature will help users identify whether the email they receive is from a legitimate source or from a scammer.
The verified checkmark builds on Gmail's existing Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) feature. This feature requires companies to declare that the brand logo they use as their email avatar is truly theirs. It is stated that companies that have already adopted BIMI will automatically receive the tick mark.
As can be seen in the image shared by Google, hovering over the check mark states that "the person who sent this email has verified that he or she has the domain and profile picture that he used to send the email." Google states that email authentication can help both users and security systems "identify and stop spam," while also allowing senders to "enjoy their brand trust."
Gmail is rolling out verified checkmarks to both Workspace accounts and personal Google accounts starting today, so you may start seeing blue checkmarks in your emails very soon.
