Apple`s 2027 goal: only OLED displays!

Technology giant Apple uses LCD and mini LED screens in most of its products. However, according to a new report emerging, the company has a better target for 2027. Aiming to use OLED screens in almost all of its products, Apple also aims to produce a 32-inch and 42-inch external display.

Omdia's latest BT OLED display forecasts claim that worldwide OLED shipments will grow from around 9.7 million units in 2022 to over 70 million in 2028. While most of this growth will be driven by laptops, the number of OLED tablets will also increase considerably during this period.

It is said that the main contributor to this expected increase will be the increase in the use of OLED screens in Apple's devices. According to the report, Apple will start using OLED panels for the iPad starting with new iPad Pro models next year, and then switch to the OLED MacBook Pro in 2026. In addition, Apple will almost completely phase out LCD and mini-LED displays in mobile devices by 2026.

Turning to Apple's external display plans, the Omdia report shows that Apple's roadmap includes a pair of OLED external displays in 2027, one 32-inch and the other 42-inch. It is not yet clear whether these will be standalone external displays like Pro Display XDR and Studio Display, or panels for use in a future iMac.
