Apple is greatly reducing production of its highly anticipated Vision Pro glasses, even hinting that production may stop in November.
According to a report by The Information, production, which had already slowed down earlier this summer, is now about to halt. A factory worker stated that some components stopped being produced in May, and there are tens of thousands of parts that haven’t been delivered. Suppliers claim that Apple has enough components to produce between 500,000 to 600,000 units, which is expected to meet demand for a long time.
Luxshare, the Chinese manufacturer responsible for the final assembly of Apple Vision Pro, reportedly produced around 2000 units per day during peak periods and is currently producing about 1000 units daily.
Apple, which dismantled its production line, may increase production if demand rises. Additionally, Apple could release a more affordable model with similar components or introduce a minor upgrade without making significant changes to the headset itself.
Although Apple Vision Pro is praised for its high-quality display and intuitive user experience, it faces criticism for its $3500 price, bulky design, and typical VR headset issues like headaches and nausea. Furthermore, the lack of device-specific applications is highlighted as a major issue.
Meanwhile, it’s reported that Apple has shifted its focus to a cheaper version of the Vision Pro. A more accessible device could increase sales, which would encourage developers to create more apps.
