Apple does not pay OpenAI for ChatGPT integration

Apple announced at its annual developers conference that it has integrated OpenAI's ChatGPT into iPhone, iPad and Mac. However, Apple will not pay for this in money.

One of the announcements Apple made at WWDC was that OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot, a leading artificial intelligence company backed by Microsoft, will be integrated into iPhone, iPad and Mac. Although both parties announced the co-operation, they remained silent about the financial side of the deal. However, according to a new report, the reason for this silence is that there is no "cash" deal.

Apple does not pay money to OpenAI

Normally, when a giant company and a rapidly rising company enter into a partnership, a certain amount of money changes hands. According to Bloomberg's report, this is not the case for Apple and OpenAI; no one paid anyone. Instead, Apple is said to have made a "reputation" payment by putting OpenAI and its technology in front of hundreds of millions of people.

According to reports, Apple gains the advantage of offering consumers an advanced chatbot thanks to ChatGPT, while OpenAI gains recognition. However, this raises question marks. According to the reports, OpenAI's only share of the deal is recognition and access to more people. There are probably very few people who have never heard of OpenAI or used ChatGPT even once.

On the other hand, OpenAI - and indirectly Apple - has the opportunity to make money under the agreement. Apple is using ChatGPT to power artificial intelligence features in iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. For example, Siri will use ChatGPT to pre-authorise requests that exceed its capabilities. Apple's authoring tools across platforms will also use ChatGPT to summarise, generate text, and rewrite in a different tone. Users will not have to register an account for ChatGPT. However, they can increase the capabilities by switching to ChatGPT Plus, which costs $ 20 per month. In this way, Apple will be able to generate revenue through OpenAI and commission.

In addition to all this, the agreement will also have a cost to OpenAI. As it is known, OpenAI hosts its artificial intelligence in Microsoft's Azure cloud systems and pays for each capacity. More users mean more payments and computing capacity for OpenAI.

Apple is also in talks not only with OpenAI but also with other artificial intelligence companies and solutions. It is stated that the company can integrate other artificial intelligence with revenue sharing agreements in the future. Apple is reportedly in talks with Anthropic and Google on this issue.
