Apple expands Car Key feature to more brands

Apple is opening its Car Key feature to three new brands. Although not officially announced, codes mention three car brands: Polestar, Volvo, and Audi.

Apple will begin supporting the digital car key feature for specific models from Volvo, Polestar, and Audi. The report indicates that only car brands can be found in the Wallet app, and there is no information available about which models will receive the Car Key feature and when.

Apple Car Key is coming to Volvo, Audi, and Polestar vehicles

Introduced at the WWDC 2020 event, the Car Key feature allows iPhone and Apple Watch users to add their car keys to the Wallet app, enabling them to control basic functions such as locking/unlocking doors and starting the vehicle from their phone or watch. For example, the lock opens as you approach the car, and it locks when you leave. You can also lock and unlock the vehicle by holding your device near the door handle. Additionally, you can use functions allowed by the car manufacturer remotely.

The Car Key feature supports Quick Mode. This allows you to use the car key without unlocking your device or going through authentication processes like Face ID or Touch ID. You can share your car key using messaging apps like Messages and WhatsApp, or via AirDrop.
