Apple could be fined $539M after Spotify complaint

The European Commission has been examining Apple's App Store store and its dominance on this platform since a complaint filed by Spotify in 2019. As a result of these investigations, it is said that the technology giant acts against competition in Apple Music and suppresses alternatives. Europe's investigation, which started after the Spotify complaint, is based on Apple's hidden tax of 30 per cent in the App Store. Because of this fee, Apple Music alternatives were struggling to provide cheaper service. Moreover, they could not offer their own payment methods. Apple later relaxed these restrictions. According to reports, the EU Commission will decide that Apple violated DMA laws and created unfair trading conditions for competitors of the App Store.
