Information about Google’s next Android update, Android 16, is spreading quickly. For those who missed it, it was recently announced that the new version would be called “Baklava.” Just recently, the first release date details were shared, and it could be sooner than you think.

As you may know, Google introduces a new version of Android every year, and these updates usually roll out between August and November. However, Android 16 might break this usual pattern. According to recent reports, some hints about the release date of Android 16 were found in Android 15’s Compatibility Definition Document, showing terms like "25Q2" or "25Q2/Android W."

It may arrive sooner than expected

This suggests that Android 16 could be released earlier than planned, likely in the second quarter of next year (between April and June). To recall, Android 15 wasn’t ready on time, which led to the Pixel 9 series launch being moved from October to August, with the phones launching on Android 14.

So, if Android 16 is released by the end of June 2025, Google could once again favor an August hardware launch, and the Pixel 10 series might come out running Android 16 right out of the box. Additionally, an early release date could give Android devices an advantage over Apple's annual iOS launches.

Of course, these are just predictions, and nothing is certain yet. Considering the delays faced with Android 15 and Android 14, it’s possible that Android 16 might face similar challenges. However, if a second-quarter release happens, Google could position Android ahead of iOS once again. As for Android 15, the update is expected to roll out to Pixel users soon, with other major manufacturers (Samsung, Honor, OnePlus, etc.) delivering Android 15 to their users in the coming months.
