Google released Android 15 Beta 2 for Pixel devices on the second day of the I/O 2024 developer conference. Apart from these, Android 15 Beta can also be installed on Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Nothing, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Sharp, Tecno, vivo and Xiaomi's devices. Let's take a look at the innovations coming with Android 15 Beta 2.
 

Private Area

With the Private Space feature, you can now create a separate space for the Android applications you choose. Thus, your applications that you do not want others to access are kept in a separate area. You can access these applications with a fingerprint or password. The apps' data and notifications are stored in a separate user profile, isolated from the rest of the phone and not visible in the multitasking page and settings.

Save app pairs

With the feature that will be useful for tablets and foldable phones, applications that run simultaneously on a single screen can be saved. You will be able to pin these application pairs to the taskbar at the bottom or to the home screen. 

Predictive return

With the predictive back feature, a smoother and more intuitive navigation experience is achieved when navigating the interface using gestures. For example, if you swipe from the left edge of the screen to the right to go to the home page, this will now be animated and the application will be minimised.

Other innovations

• The Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature provides a smoother transition when entering PiP mode.
• Apps will no longer be able to actively run in the foreground for more than 6 hours to prevent excessive battery consumption.
• A more efficient software decoder is being added to be used when the AV1 codec is not supported.
• Apps will be able to highlight only the most recently selected photos and videos when they are granted partial access to media.
• It is now possible to set rich vibrations for incoming notifications by channel.

Users who have signed up for the Android Beta programme and whose devices support it will be able to update their devices to Android 15 Beta 2.
