The iOS 18.1 update introduces Camera Control improvements, spatial photo capture, and call recording for iPhone 16 models. Also included are other new features, bug fixes and security updates. Here are the new features and fixes that come with iOS 18.1, according to the release notes:
Call Recording
- Call recording allows you to save live phone calls or FaceTime audio calls. An automatic notification indicates that the call is being recorded.
Camera Control Improvements
- Camera Control can now quickly switch to the front TrueDepth camera (iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max).
- Spatial video and photo capture are also available in the new Spatial Camera Mode (iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max).
Hearing Test for AirPods Pro 2
- The Hearing Test feature provides scientifically validated hearing test results in the comfort of your home (for users 18+).
- The Hearing Aid feature delivers personalized, clinically graded assistance for music, video, calls, and environmental sounds (for users 18+ with mild-to-moderate hearing loss).
Improvements and Bug Fixes
- Control Center now includes options to add individual connection controls and reset configurations.
- RCS Business Messaging allows for contact with businesses via RCS, with carrier support.
- Resolves an issue where unplayed episodes were marked as played in Podcasts.
- Fixes stuttering in video playback within Photos when recording 4K at 60 FPS with a warm device.
- Addresses an issue preventing digital car keys from unlocking or starting a vehicle after being restored from backup or transferred from another iPhone.
- Fixes unexpected restarts on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models.
