Visual Capitalist has compiled a ranking of the best-selling mobile phones of all time. The list includes devices from only three brands.
What are the most popular mobile phones in the history of the industry? The answer to this question is given by Visual Capitalist's new ranking, which is completely dominated by three brands. Nokia, Apple and Samsung devices are among the 15 most popular mobile phones. Samsung's absence from the top ten is striking, this can be explained by the wide variety of models offered by the Korean manufacturer.
Nokia's dominance
As expected, Nokia tops the list, but the surprise is that the most popular phone is not a hit like the 3210. At the top of the list is the Nokia 1100, which has sold 250 million units in six years, while its "sibling" Nokia 1110 almost repeats this success (248 million) and ranks second. Rounding out the top 3 are Apple's most popular smartphones, the iPhone 6 series (222 million), and the Nokia 3210, which has sold 161 million units, can only find a place in seventh place.
So where is Samsung in this list? The company's most popular device failed to make it into the top 10: the Samsung E1100, an affordable push-button phone, came in 11th place (150 million). Finally, the iPhone 5 closes the top 15 list with 146 million units sold.
