100 billion dollar supercomputer investment from OpenAI and Microsoft

OpenAI, which revolutionised the field of artificial intelligence with ChatGPT, plans to build a new supercomputer and data centre with Microsoft that could cost up to $ 100 billion.

OpenAI, which revolutionised artificial intelligence with ChatGPT, plans to build a new supercomputer and data centre that could cost up to $ 100 billion. According to The Information, the company plans to complete the artificial intelligence supercomputer and data centre project called "Stargate" by 2028.

Demand for artificial intelligence data centres has increased

The rapid adoption of generative AI technology has led to a rapid increase in demand for AI data centres that can perform more advanced tasks than traditional data centres.

The Information reported that Microsoft will likely fund the project, which is expected to cost 100 times more than the largest existing data centres.

According to the report, Altman and Microsoft have spread the supercomputers over five phases. Stargate will be launched in the final phase. Microsoft is working on a smaller, fourth-stage supercomputer for OpenAI, to be released around 2026. It is stated that Microsoft and OpenAI are in the middle of the third stage of the five-stage plan, and the biggest cost in the remaining stages is the cost of acquiring AI chips.

When it comes to AI chips, Nvidia dominates the industry. The company's latest chips, the "Blackwell" B200, cost between 30 and 40 thousand dollars. Micrsosoft also announced its own special artificial intelligence chips in November. It is stated that OpenAI's new project is designed to work with chips from different suppliers. Microsoft and OpenAI have not yet commented on the project.
